I’m Isabelle Auger, 35 years old. Since the age of 22, I have been living with an ileostomy that was rendered necessary, despite all medicated procedures, by Crohn’s disease, which had become out of control and had a devastating effect on my life. From then on, I had to learn to live with an ostomy, my ostomy.
I was 22 years old and my world had crumbled around me. I went through unimaginable arrays of emotions: pain, fear, insecurity, doubt, lack of confidence, sadness, non-acceptation. And what about all those questions that haunted me day and night. “Was my life to end this way? How was I to cope? Would I be able to live and undertake activities normally? Would people notice that pouch attached to me? Would I be able to wear the clothes to which I was accustomed? Who would want me as life partner given this condition? And, above all, would I be able to like and accept myself despite this condition?
Gradually, sunshine wound its way back in my life. I became conscious that this ostomy had not robbed me of my life, but had in fact returned it to me. That is when, from my perspective, a new life started. Not only with the person I used to be, but also with the one I had become.
I managed to transform this discouraging condition into a life experience. Looking back now, I can even state that I had become a better person and had grown. These events led me to want to help others and improve things around me, which pushed me into nursing.
Though this new career proved very gratifying, something was still missing… An idea, you see, had been bouncing around in my head for years…
The marketplace did not offer me such things as lingerie, undergarments and bathing suits adapted to my ostomy. I finally TOOK THE PLUNGE after having presented my idea to my partner. This is what launched Lingerie Sérénité in October 2008: a stylized and adapted line of lingerie that improves the comfort and operation of the “equipment” and completely hides it. We are now in full creative mode and I can assure you that our products will simplify your everyday routine!
Thus, it is through an ostomate and for other ostomates that LINGERIE SÉRÉNITÉ was born. Since I am an ostomate, I care for the comfort, the security and the elegance of our creations. And each model is tested before going into production. We test, innovate and want to offer you ingenious products.
